Travelling

I am in sunny, sweltering Singapore for a week. Even though I was mentally prepared for the heat after cold, dark, wintry London, I was completely taken aback by the blast of hot air, coming out of the airport.

I love the sun – clear, blue skies with not a speck of cloud and a warm, gentle breeze. But I do prefer colder weather, or least slightly cooler than 30 degrees.

It feels soooo strange to fly over Delhi, Agra, Calcutta and not stop.

Travelling, leaving a toddler at home, is so not fun. K bawled when I first told her that I have to go, but she was absolutely fine when I actually left. I expected a full-blown tantrum when she and R came to send me off, but she was fine and kissed me goodbye. She has grown up on me. She seems to be having a nice time with R, fingers crossed it stays that way.

My sleep cycle is absolutely ruined. Inspite of not leaving sleeping much on the flight (watched ‘All About Steve’ (boring, only watched it for Sandra Bullock, whom i love), ‘An Education’ (lovely, will review this later) and Kaminey (avoidable), I am wide awake at 3.30 AM !!

I love love the food here, though I have to mostly order tailor made vegetarian dishes, considering there are hardly any on the menu. Dinner last night was hand-made rice noodles with lots of shitake mushrooms, asparagus and crunchy vegetables with a dash of chilli. Very nourishing, followed by a deathly black forest pastry.

I have a lovely room this time around – a big suite to myself. Wish the family were around to share it.
